The shearer’s outfit is generally dungarees (pants with double thickness of material in the front and lower back of the leg) a “Jacky Howe” (blue sleeveless singlet named after one of the best shearers in Australia) and non-slip moccasins (shoes) made from felt.

I always laugh at the names Norm comes up with for the dogs – I think it was a family tradition started by his Dad, Brian. Some of the more unusual names include Rolled Oats (our Jack Russell), Toothpaste and Bootlace.

Today I want to introduce you to Sallie who is the oldest hound of 3 “house dogs” we have. I was given Sal 12 years ago when the twins were 4 - which makes her 84 in dog years!

Today we found out why we have been getting no eggs from the chooks – the culprit – a Goanna named Gus! As beautiful as he is we are missing our eggs – fried, scrambled or in cakes for morning tea.

This week Norm and Frank (our farm hand) have been busy getting ready for our Artificial Insemination (AI) program with our top Stud Ewes (i.e. the best girls we have on Glenwood).

It has been like an episode of Wildlife Rescue this week at Glenwood. Today I found a tiny sugar glider in the garden that must have fallen out of a tree. Steve Irwin would have been proud as I got a ladder and found a nice new home for “Cyril” in a big tree away from the house.

Norm and Frank have been chipping Bathurst Burrs which grow a dime a dozen especially when it rains. I remember my Dad used to pay us 1 cent a burr when we were growing up and earning about $4 for the day. I am not sure our kids would do it for 1 cent a burr nowadays!

This week Norm has been moving or rotating the sheep – on a daily basis – from paddock to paddock, under our Holistic Management Plan. The original idea was developed by Allan Savory and we have been following his teachings for 18 years.
